We usually manually configure the firefox configuration by writing about:config . But  The Firetune software(622 kb) can solve this problem. Download the software from www.totalidea.com . Now run the software closing the Firefox. From Performance Optimization tab select the computer and internet speed.  After completing all modification click on "Tune It".  Now run Firefox and see the speed is been increased !!!
